Caleb made the transition last night to a big boy bed. While shopping for it on Sunday, he wasn't enthusiastic and said "No new bed" at most of the stores. At the last one that we wound up buying the mattress and boxspring from, he was starting to sit on the mattresses a little bit more and singing, "No more monkeys jumping on the bed". So yesterday we weren't sure what the reception would be.
While he was at daycare, Carey and I moved out the crib and Cars toddler bed from his room. We set up the new mattress and boxspring flush on the floor so they aren't too high if he should roll out and he can easily climb in on his own. With his Cars blankie in place and his stuffed animals, we were set. When he got home last night, we showed him the new bed and he was fairly excited right away. He really seemed to like how big it was.
When it was time to go to sleep, he really liked getting under the new sheet and his blankie and hiding with his stuffed animals. We checked on him a few times and he zonked out without issue. And this morning, the only ones that were sleeping on the floor were the stuffed animals. So far, so good. I'm sure we might have some push back at some point. But, for now, the crib is locked up in the front room. The toddler bed is listed for sale on Craigslist. Ideally we can sell the toddler bed and keep the crib hidden for a few months. We'll see!
Let's see, what else. I'm still getting into some of my other outfits and so not having to use the maternity clothes all the time yet. Of course if I had the Jetson's type device to produce whatever food I want right away, I might get even bigger! I seem to crave things that I don't have with me here at work. I try to bring a lot of options but it seems like what I bring, my taste buds don't want. Most times though, healthy fruits, vegetables, cheeses and such are more appealing than some of the processed, junk food. So that's a good thing.
I've had some real aches and pains lately but I know growing with Caleb I had that as well. I'm looking forward to my next doctor checkup on 9/11 to know that everything is growing and developing well. I think I should get to hear the heartbeat that time. But probably won't get a peek at the baby.
Hope everyone is well. Talk to you soon.

Broke out the maternity jeans
Well, I had to do it today. Had to dig out one of my bags of maternity clothes and grab a pair of jeans. The ones in my closet just did not have enough room and give to fit comfortable today. Feels early to be in maternity clothes and the big stretchy waistband is pretty baggy. But, it feels good to be taking deep breaths again. I guess the jeans are the first wardrobe item to go and the last ones you get back into after a baby.
And, there have been a few other things I've worn lately that just seem that bit too snug to be comfortable. At least I can go home on lunch and make a change if need be. When pregnant with Caleb, I made a few emergency trips to Target to buy a different outfit! For some reason things seem to fit okay in the morning and then feel tighter later on.
Its probably due to the fact that I have had more of an appetitite again. A few diet changes, a good supply of Tums and we're doing better. No true cravings yet but I do sometimes get something in mind and kind of want it. Nothing odd right now, just things I eat normally like the Pineapple Fried Rice from a local Thai restaurant. It's very mild but tasty.
Anywho, it's a quiet Friday at work and just counting the hours to 5:00 to go home and relax with the boys. Hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend.

How do you feel?
Guess I should just learn to give a short, simple answer to this question, "I feel like a pregnant woman". Can't say that I'm not looking forward to hitting 12 weeks which hopefully will be the easier second trimester that most people experience. It would be nice to eat whatever I want again without worries of queasiness and spend time with Carey and Caleb without always feeling tired and needing a nap.
And yet, I am still so glad that we are having this opportunity to add to our family and have another little person to meet and watch as they grow and develop. Caleb is so much fun to observe as he plays and creates.
Tonight when taking a picture, he said, "Wait! Wait!" and had to be included. He's learning that Mommy can't pick him up anymore. We got a book about a new baby. Caleb's favorite part is one of the pictures with a silly expression on the baby's face.
Just trying to enjoy each part of this process as much as I can and giving thanks again that we will soon be completing our family as we've always hoped.
Have a good one and take care!

Big Brother Caleb helps with baby names
The other day we were all riding in the car and I was talking with Carey about possible baby names. All starting with "C" of course! I was saying "How about..., how about...., how about...." Next thing we know, out of the backseat, Caleb pipes up and says, "How about chicken?" Well, it does start with C as did everything I was saying. When that got lots of laughs from Carey and I, he also suggested "How about French Fries" and "How about ketchup".
For the rest of the weekend, whenever he wanted to get us to laugh, Caleb would again say, "How about chicken?" Not knowing at all why it was so funny when he said it the first time.
I fully expect that by the time that Caleb is in about middle school, this story will be met with much eye rolling and protests but, it will be fun to remind him how he suggested we name his sibling "chicken".
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I've been having a rough day myself and I have been wishing that somehow I could just go home and rest on the couch. Just a touch of queasiness and fatique that has lingered ever since this morning. Again, the term "morning sickness" does not really apply.
About 6-7 weeks along now and so about 6 weeks to go before we get out of the first trimester. Fingers crossed that the second trimester will be the easy time that most folks experience. Pretty sure I did with Caleb too. That was before he got so big and sat so high up under my ribs!
Have a good one and talk to you all soon.

First Ultrasound went well!
This morning's first ultrasound went well. Little Baby "C" is right where she or he should be. And the little flicker of a heartbeat was visible on the ultrasound screen. So amazing to see that. Still saw the specialist doctor today who really said that there was no need for me to keep going there. I am very low risk and so can go see the regular OB from now on. The next appointment is 9/11, hope that none of the negative history of that day carries forward for us. Still felt a little hesitant when they said that they had that day open.
Probably won't get to scan the ultrasound this evening as we have an evening of swimming ahead with Carey's extended family. Thank goodness for one way to relieve ourselves from this heat!
Don't know if it's too early for cravings but little Baby "C" definitely wants and needs lots of protein. Last night a gardenburger with pickles, cheese and ketchup was a bedtime snack!
Well, that's all for now. Will post more soon.

Day before first ultrasound
Tomorrow morning is the first ultrasound and our first peek at the baby! Not sure how will be visible but it will still be nice to have a first look. Before this past week, things were very, very quiet. There hasn't really been much to report. This week the indigestion and fatique have hit.
Of course as all moms know, the term "morning" sickness is a lie because there is no guarantee that your discomfort will be limited to the morning. A supply of ginger ale and Saltines crackers is always pretty near at hand for me and I guess I'll keep re-stocking for about another two months.
The super hot Florida heatwave does not help much. We've had heat advisories in our counties a lot lately. A fan and a footrest at my desk help a little bit but I would still kill for a breakroom with a comfy couch. If smokers can have hourly smokebreaks, I should be able to go somewhere and lay down for a little 15 minute break. But, I suppose it would be tough to limit it to just a short break!!!
Big brother Caleb is still mostly in his own little world and not really aware of his sibling on the way. Although, he is still pretty possessive of some of the baby toys that I had moved over to the new nursery to be.
I'll try and post an update some time during the day tomorrow after my appointment. If I have a picture and there is even much of anything to see, chances are I won't have an opportunity to scan it into the computer until the evening at the soonest.
Take care and will update you all again soon.
